The Art in Public Places has sponsored many pieces of town art in Sacramento, and is one of the most vigorous examples of public art. The program was established in 1977 and includes a collection of more than 700 permanent works of art integrated into Sacramento's urban and natural environments. More than 80% of the art is by local artists.
APP is funded through City and County ordinances, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding which specifies that 2% of eligible City and County capital improvement project budgets be set aside for the commission, purchase, and installation of artworks throughout the City.
Some of the sponsored works featured throughout the city, grouped by city council districts and artists, are listed here. Check them out and then add some more!
