It is illegal to put electronics in the trash. According to CalRecycle,
"Unwanted electronic devices should be reused or recycled. Computers, monitors, televisions and other electronic equipment should NOT be disposed of with regular garbage; in fact, this is illegal in California. Functioning electronics can be sold or donated thereby prolonging their useful life. Nonfunctioning electronics that cannot be repaired should be recycled by an organization qualified to do so."
E-Waste consists of the following:
Cathode Ray Tubes, Cell Phones, Computer Monitors, Computer Peripherals, Computers, Copy Machines, Electronics, Printers, Faxes, Satellite Dishes, Telephones, TVs, VCRs, and Video Games.
The following is a list of places you can recycle your e-waste.
Note: Not all facilities accept all types of E Waste.
CalRecycle provides a list of facilities participating in the Covered Electronic Waste Recovery and Recycling Program in Alameda County.
StopWaste.org provides a list sorted by the type of device.
