Alcoholism, the Family Disease

While most of us know that alcoholism is a disease, too few recognize it as a "family disease," which may emotionally, spiritually, and often physically affect three or four people in addition to the alcoholic. Al-Anon and Alateen give us the assurance that no situation is too difficult and no unhappiness too great to be lessened. With the understanding that alcoholism is a disease, and with the realization that we are powerless over it, as well as over other people, we are ready to do something useful and constructive with our own lives. Only then can we be of help to our friends and loved ones. (Alcoholism, the Family Disease)

The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery. Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution; does not engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions. Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic. (Preamble to the Twelve Steps)

Davis Al-Anon Current Meeting Schedule

The following Al-Anon meetings are part of the Davis Al-Anon Family Groups (AFG) and are open to anyone. All of these meetings follow the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Al-Anon. In accordance to the Al-Anon Traditions, our groups are anonymous and there is no fee to join. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.
