Picnic Day 2023 was the 109th Picnic Day to be held in Davis. The theme of the event was "Ignite our Moment." As the second in-person Picnic Day since resuming in 2022, all of the traditional Animal Events, Exhibits, Live Performances, booths are back. Some highlights include the Doxie Derby, Battle Of The Bands, and many more.
This is the second Picnic Day to have a "Safety Enforcement Zone" with stricter rules on open alcohol containers and noise violations in an effort by the city to cut back on the wild party atmosphere that Picnic Day has been traditionally known for.

2023-04-14 16:26:28 That "ignite" seems a bit of a dangerous phrase nowadays. Planning to go for sure, but the Aggies Band-Uh won't be there, I take it. And that was always my main musical joy. —ConstantiaOomen
2023-04-15 09:42:45 I am using https://picnicday.ucdavis.edu/plan-your-visit to pick events, especially "Plan Your Visit By Hour". My favorite are the Animal Events. —ToddGlenn
2023-04-15 16:41:19 Even though all was so pleasantly familiar, very nice and friendly, without the Battle of the Bans, it was eerily quiet and I left within one hour. I can cry, the heart has been ripped out of the event and I think they made a big mistake with this. Please bring back the Band-Uh and the Battle of the Bands. —ConstantiaOomen

2023-04-22 10:51:53 Really great photos! I didn't realize Battle of the Bands was cancelled this time, but at least the parade was still good. My favorite is still the classic Doxie Derby. It was very nice to see all the activity again, it felt like the first real picnic day since resuming in-person and I know next year will be better. —ToddGlenn
2023-04-22 10:53:44 Also I live outside the safety enforcement zone and some of my neighbors were having fun that evening. No problem for me there, just people having a good time. Probably just limit this to downtown if at all, it has existed for 100+ years without this. —ToddGlenn
